The Seat Arona is this year’s Best Ultralight Tow Car (chosen from cars suitable for towing the Swift Basecamp or Wessex Trailer).

You’d swear that a 1.0-litre petrol engine wouldn’t be strong enough for towing, but so long as you don’t mind working the engine, the Arona makes good progress.

At high speeds and while decelerating, the Al-Ko ATC system showed the Seat kept the van firmly in control, and in the lane-change test, the Arona was exceptional for such a small car.

Reasonably practical for its size, it’s well equipped and very keenly priced.
